Where are you based?
We are based in Tiverton, Devon but operate a nationwide service from our purpose-built premises.
What is a minibus?
A minibus is a passenger carrying vehicle with a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 16 passenger seats (plus the driver’s seat).
What minibuses do you supply?
We supply all the major brands and models of vans and minibuses, including: Peugeot, Ford, Renault, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Citroen, Fiat and Iveco.
Do you only supply minibuses?
We specialise in wheelchair accessible vehicles but we do also offer other vehicle conversion solutions, including air suspension and hydraulic leveling systems for your motor home or caravan. Contact us to see if we can help with your request.
Can I drive a minibus?
To drive a minibus your license must include a category D1 otherwise you will need to take an additional driving test. However, holders of a full category B (car) driving license may drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats provided all the following conditions are met:
- The vehicle is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body but not for hire or reward
- The driver is age 21 or over
- The driver has held a car (category B) licence for at least 2 years
- The driver is providing the service on a voluntary basis
- The minibus maximum weight is not more than 3.5 tonnes (or 4.25 tonnes including any specialist equipment for the carriage of disabled passengers)
- If the driver is aged 70 or over they must meet the health standards for driving a D1 vehicle.
Can I drive a 17 seat minibus on a B1 license?
All new fully type approved 17 seat minibuses have a GVM in excess of 3500kg and you will therefore require a D1 driving licence. Drivers who passed their tests before January 1997 automatically received a D1 entitlement but if you obtained a full car driving license after January 1997 you will need to take a test. There is however a dispensation for volunteers to drive a minibus with a higher capacity of 16 passengers, providing the gross weight does not exceed 3500kg.
Would you be able to put my organisation’s logo and details on the minibus?
We pride ourselves on offering a completely bespoke service so yes, we would just need an electronic copy of your logo along with any details you would like added.
Which brand of wheelchair fixings do you use?
Courtside Conversions work very closely with a number of reputable accessible transport solution specialists, such as Unwin, Koller and NMI. We are an approved Unwins installation specialist and as such we primarily recommend and use their wheelchair restraints and fixings.
How often should I have my tail lift checked?
Tail lifts must be checked every six months and weight tested every year in accordance with LOLER regulations.
Do I have a choice of tail lift?
We supply tail lifts from a number of manufacturers including Passenger Lift Services (PLS), Ricon and Portaramp. If necessary, we can offer objective advice on the best choice to meet your requirements.
What flooring system do you use?
Most of our vehicles are fitted with Innotrax flooring; however we do offer other options, like Koller Smart Floor. We only use fully tested and certified flooring systems that allow us to provide removable seat options if required. All of our vehicles come with a flat floor to eliminate two seats being cramped by the wheel arches.
Do you offer a warranty?
We offer a 2 year warranty on all vehicle conversions although manufacturer warranties may vary so we advise speaking to your nearest dealership for more information.
What is Type approval?
Vehicle Type Approval is confirmation that the vehicle meets prescribed standards. These standards derive from European Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations (ECWVTA). In the UK, we refer to Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA).
Do you deliver my minibus or do I collect?
You are welcome to collect your vehicle from our purpose-built premises in Tiverton, Devon but for clients’ convenience we can organise delivery for a pre-arranged date.
